This area is experiencing an increase in student population and faculty use with the University's purchase of a portion of the Old Capitol Mall, now University Capitol Centre, and the planned building of the new Campus Recreation and Wellness Center at the southwest corner of Madison and Burlington Streets.

Main Campus South began with the 1904 construction of the Engineering Building and has become an academic center for the College of Engineering (Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences, right) and College of Education among other varied campus buildings like
the Main Library, Becker Communications Building, and Adler Journalism Building
.
