The University of Iowa Hospitals
and Clinics Campus was first
anchored
by the gothic towers of
the General
Hospital in 1929
and
has since grown
to more than
4
million gross
square
feet of
nationally
recognized teaching
hospital space.
There are a total
of
11
buildings or
permanent
building
additions that
comprise
the main UI Hospitals
and
Clinics
complex.
The
total space
consumed
by the buildings within the
main UIHC complex is
approximately
3.2 million
gross square
feet. These
buildings
cover 13.8 acres.
Current efforts by UIHC to establish
long-term strategic and physical plans
indicate a north and westward shift
to
the hospital facilities.
UIHC continues
to strengthen its physical
and
functional
ties to the
Health Sciences
Campus.
