EPA Top 20 list of on-site green power users - The University of Iowa was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the Top 20 On-site Green Power Users, with a rank of 15th in the nation. Only university to be recognized. Press Release.
2008 Iowa Recycling Association Annual Award for Best Practices for recycling efforts and programs on campus. (09/08)
Green Power Partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The UI is meeting a green power commitment to the EPA by burning oat hulls in place of coal, generating approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours of green power. (01/08)
UI Biomass Project and Energy Conservation Campaign named "Best Practice". Featured as best-practice examples to reduce greenhouse gases by the National Wildlife Federation in its recent report “Higher Education in a Warming World: The Business Case for Climate Leadership on Campus.” (02/08)
Successful completion of the Chicago Climate Exchange Phase I greenhouse gas reduction commitment of 4% below its baseline. University has now entered CCX Phase II, which extends the reduction program through 2010. (01/08)
Recycling Bin Grant from the National Recycling Coalition (NRC). The Bin Grant program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and will allow the UI to increase recycling efforts both inside and outside campus buildings. (11/07)
Work Fluorescent Lamp Management Team wins IOWA (Improving Our Workplace Award) for fall 2007. The team developed a process to ensure that universal wastes (bulbs, batteries, and mercury containing equipment) would be handled, tracked and disposed of properly. (11/07)
Energy Conservation and Management Strategic Plan . This ambitious and money-saving plan was released in February, 2007. The plan provides strategies to use more renewable energy, increase energy efficiencies, encourage energy conservation, attain energy security, ensure systems reliability, and more. Read the plan. Pollution Prevention Intern Program . The State of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recognized Facilities Management for Environmental Excellence and Leadership by participating in “The Pollution Prevention Intern Program”.

Route 66 Safety Program wins APPA's Effective & Innovative Practices Award and the CACUBO 2007 RCB Capital Markets Best Practices Program. Route 66 Safety Program , CACUBO's 2007 RCB Capital Markets Best Practices Program - second place (10/07) and appeared in APPA's Facilities Manager. (10/07)
