What

The University of Iowa will be holding the second of two public meetings to discuss the proposed repurposement (Feasibility and Adaptive Reuse Study) of the existing 1936 Art Building located at 200 N. Riverside Drive in Iowa City Iowa. This meeting is a follow up to the public meeting held June 18, 2015 in which the University encouraged the public to attend an open house and provide input.

When

November 16, 2015 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the University Capitol Centre- Room 2520D at 200 South Capitol Street, Iowa City, IA.

purpose

The purpose of this second public meeting is to share the results of the reuse study, which takes into account proposals and ideas expressed at the first public forum. The study identifies options for potential building uses based on how various proposed programs will best fit into the structure. The University intends to use the study, and statements collected from the two forum events to assign programs that will best serve institutional objectives. The University of Iowa, along with representatives from INVISION Architecture, who conducted the reuse study, will present diagrams, and other pertinent information during the open house.

background

The proposed scope of the study includes repurposing of the existing 1936 Art Building to determine what University function it may serve in the future. The study also considers the fact that the building is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and is a significant landmark to Iowa City and the State of Iowa. The purpose of the first public meeting was to collect input as the University considered potential reuse for the building. Drawings, and other pertinent information were available for public review. During the open house the public discussed the project in an informal manner with representatives from The University of Iowa, along with representatives from INVISION Architecture, who are conducting the reuse study. Remarks were noted and became part of the official record.
