Earth Day 2008 - UI Projects and Events
- April 18-20, 2008 - Volunteers will be working in teams to remove invasive species from the woodlands around Coralville Dam. Pre-registration by April 1st is required to receive two nights of free camping, lunch on Saturday, and a t-shirt. Contact Ranger Mary Sue Bowers at mary.s.bowers@usace.army.mil to pre-register. - April 20, 1-5p.m, Residence Hall Environmental Awareness Event- Flower planting, creating eco-friendly notebooks and laundry detergent, local bluegrass music, and organic food. Also learn how to compost and walk to the campus garden (from 1-2p.m.). This will take place in the Currier Residence Hall Courtyard and MPR.

April 21-25, Future Physicians for the Environment Earth Week Events - Carver College of Medicine has a whole week of events celebrating the environment, For more information, check out their flier (PDF).
- April 22, Noon-6p.m, Earth Day At East Side - Activities planned so far include a compost give-a-way (bring your own bucket), booths for recycling education and future plans at the East Side Recycling Center, Friends of Historic Preservation will give away materials to make garden benches. Winners of the Public Service Announcement contest about the waste associated with bottled water will be announced. Groups are welcome to set up educational booths or activities to inform the public about what the group does and how to get involved. - April 22, 6-9p.m, Earthapalooza - Iowa City's Earth Day event. The documentary "Global Warming: The Signs and the Science" narrated by Alanis Morissette will be shown, followed by a discussion with guest speakers Sharon Benzoni, Rich Dana, and Michelle Kenyon Brown. UI Engineers for a Sustainable World will also be part of this event. It will be held in meeting room A, B, and C of the Iowa City Public Library.
