UI successfully completes CCX Phase I
The UI resuccessfully completed the Phase I greenhouse gas reduction commitment of 4% below its baseline (average of 1998-2001 emissions).


Live wind measurements now online.
The University of Iowa's Utilities & Energy Management is currently taking wind speed and direction measurements at two sites to determine the feasibility of erecting wind turbines. Increasing the use of renewable energy, like wind energy, is an identified goal in the UI's Energy Plan.

UI receives Recycling Bin Grant from the National Recycling Coalition (NRC).
The Bin Grant program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and will allow the UI to increase recycling efforts both inside and outside campus buildings.

"Seven ideas lost on America", an Engineering Science & Technology editorial written by Dr. Jerald Schnoor, professor, UI College of Engineering and Chair of the UI Energy Conservation Advisory Council. Dr. Schnoor explores why he believes Americans are slow to move on sustainabillity and global warming.

UI Power Plant staff and Anenometry Specialists are installing two "cup" anemometers at 262 ft on the communications tower located south of the old UI Hills Observatory site. The anemometers will provide wind data information to the UI as part of a wind turbine feasibility study. Read more...
