Honorees: Myron (1912 - 2005) and Jacqueline N. Blank (1913-2002)


Achievements:

  • In 1980, Myron and Jacqueline Blank and David and Connie Belin met with Nicholas Colangelo, a newly appointed UI professor, to discuss the lack of programming for talented and gifted students. Colangelo developed a plan to train educators, and the Blanks — in the first of their many gifts — funded the Belin-Blank Teacher Training Fellowship Program in Gifted Education
  • Founded the Belin-Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development at the University of Iowa
  • In 1990 the couple received the Distinguished Friend of the University award from the UI Alumni Association. Also in 1990 they received the Outstanding Philanthropist Award from the Central Iowa Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives


Description of facility:

Named for Myron and Jacqueline N. Blank of Des Moines, the Blank Honors Center is home to the University Honors Program and the Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank Center for Gifted Education, which honors the work of Connie Belin, an Iowa educator and former member of the State Board of Regents. The building houses classrooms, offices, gathering spaces, and a food service area, as well as special meeting rooms devoted to the honors program. A connecting bridge links the center with the honors floor of the adjacent residence hall, Daum Hall.
