Facilities Management is an important sustainability partner in the University of Iowa's sustainability vision produced by the Office of Sustainability and the Environment. Facilities Management assists in the procurement and production of clean energy resources and sustainable initiatives.

The UI is on the Path to Zero Coal by 2025 by developing innovative biomass alternatives to coal.

Facilities Management is responsible for several initiatives that support the University of Iowa's sustainability goals as outlined by the Office of Sustainability and the Environment.

Facilities Management Environmental Services ensure that the University of Iowa is in compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations.

Facilities Management partners with several groups across campus and beyond to create innovative sustainable practices.

The UI Energy Collaborative, made up of representatives from ENGIE and Merdiam, manages the UI utility system. The UI Energy Collaborative provides energy resources to campus while advancing important initiatives and research.

UI Utilities established innovative programs that will continue to develop under the management of ENGIE and Meridiam. Through the P3, the University of Iowa Energy Collaborative (UIEC) was formed. The UIEC is made up of members from ENGIE and Meridiam, and is responsible for managing the UI's utility system. Visit the UIEC website for more information.

The UI Office of Sustainability is a focal point for sustainability activities on campus and to expedite action and change through: communicating challenges and successes; connecting individuals and organizations to catalyze action; promoting a culture of sustainability; coordinating events and activities to build awareness; and maintaining the credibility and public trust of the University of Iowa.

The University of Iowa is a Green Power Partner with the EPA. The UI is meeting a green power commitment to the EPA by burning oat hulls in place of coal, generating approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours of green power.
