Hettmansperger presents an interlocking and shifting matrix of pastel drawings of structural shapes to reference the way form arises in the natural world and in art. She says, "Plant morphology is a theme that emphasizes underlying connections between formative structures in nature for their honed elegance, beauty and interrelatedness. We seek to map a future that does not privilege one aspect over another, similar to Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion map. Our troubled cultural relationship with nature is the most pressing issue of our time. My goal is to work toward a human perception of the environment that is more sustainable, and to tease out the topology of creativity and wonder."
