The Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver Biomedical Research Building (2005) and its adjacent partner, the Medical Education and Research Facility, provide classroom, laboratory, and research space for work in genetics, cardiovascular health, and respiratory diseases. These facilities, built to operate as one, provide a significant advancement in teaching and research on the UI Medical Campus. The Carver Biomedical Research Building provides laboratory space for investigators in pediatrics, internal medicine, physiology and biophysics, and otolaryngology. The state-of-the-art facility is home to the Center for Muscular Dystrophy and also houses one 800 MHz and two 500 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance imaging devices. Its seven floors contain about 135,000 gross square feet of space.

- Carver left one-quarter of his wealth for the purpose of a charitable trust, the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, located in Muscatine, Iowa. It became the largest philanthropic foundation in Iowa
- Lucille served on the board of trustees from 1985 through her retirement in 2002. She also was a former board member of the Carver Pump Company, Carver Foundry Products, and Bandag, Inc., and she served on the University of Iowa Foundation Board of Directors from 1981 to 1985
- Lucille Carver oversaw the largest gift ever made to the University of Iowa up to that time in 2002, through the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust in the form of a $63 million commitment to the university's college of medicine through the University of Iowa Foundation. The university's college of medicine was named the "Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine."
- The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust supports University of Iowa healthcare, biomedical and scientific research, athletics, scholarships, and other programs including the Carver Pavilion, Carver Hawkeye Arena and the Carver River Research and Education Facility.
