Biography

David Luck explores the connection between the past, present and future with hammer-formed sheet metal sculptures that take on the appearance of rich, complex tapestries. In Shared Rhythms, like many of his other pieces, a checkerboard grid of linked copper is hand embossed with unique emblematic relief. While his symbols are inspired by contemporary events, the technique he uses stems from ancient Egypt. He seeks to capture the viewer’s attention with juxtaposed images, so that each individual piece must be viewed and examined separately. Luck also strives to produce timeless pieces that speak to multiple generations, generating new emotions, each time they are viewed. Luck graduated from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History with an M.A. and M.F.A. in Metalworking and Sculpture.
