ENGIE North America, the university’s utility partner, is installing new steam and condensate piping underneath Madison Street to connect to the Main Library, resulting in a two-phase closure. During Phase 1, the west half of Madison Street, south of its intersection with Washington Street, will be closed. The sidewalk on the west side of Madison Street will also be closed. Traffic will be redirected to the east side of Madison Street, where traffic will be controlled using temporary traffic lights starting Wednesday, November 15. Pedestrians will be directed to use the sidewalk on the east side of Madison St. Phase 2 will close the east half of the street and traffic will be redirected to the west side of Madison Street, where traffic will be controlled using temporary traffic lights. Access to both sides of the sidewalk along Madison Street will be restored for pedestrian traffic.
This work began on Monday, November 6, and both phases are expected to be completed by 5:00 pm on November 30. Please follow the posted detours, and exercise caution while traveling in this construction zone.
