Environmental Services


The mission of   Environmental Services is to ensure that The University of Iowa is in compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations. Environmental Services reports to Design & Construction within Facilities Management.

What We Do

Responsible for enforcement of Clean Air Act regulations which govern renovation or demolition activities which could disturb asbestos containing building materials.  Duties include:  Sampling / Asbestos Surveys, Remediation Oversight, Training, Recordkeeping & Outreach.

Compliance with Stormwater discharge permitting / NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System), SWPPP’s (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans).  Review and approve site plans, site monitoring, outreach & education. More...

Compliance with Safe Lead Work Practices under OSHA lead in construction practices  29 CFR 1926.62 and RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) disposal requirements for lead hazardous wastes.

Indoor Air Quality
First Stage Investigation of Indoor Air Quality complaints, including air sampling, occupant interviews and evaluation of identified spaces.

Sampling of Radon Levels in University of Iowa occupied buildings.
