Gerdin Athletic Learning Center

Renovated 2019

The Gerdin Athletic Learning Center opened in 2003 with a library, tutorial spaces, computer laboratory, and more to enable the UI Athletic Student Services office to fully integrate the athletic and academic development of more than 600 Hawkeye student athletes each year. The Gerdin Center is named for Russell and Ann Gerdin.

Catlett Residence Hall

Built 2017

The 12-story residence hall opened for students in fall 2017 and was named for Elizabeth Catlett, one of the first three MFA graduates from the University of Iowa and the first African American woman to receive the degree. Catlett is home to 1,049 students. The building includes a new market place, study rooms, lobby/lounge, and laundry. There are three “houses” per floor and each house has its own floor lounge that overlooks the Iowa River.

Pomerantz Business Library Biz Hub

Renovated 2017

The Biz Hub is located in the Pomerantz Business Library's third floor in the Pappajohn Business Building. The Biz Hub is a multi-service space that includes library services, the business writing center, tutoring services, and a café.

Hancher Auditorium

Built 2016

The original Hacher Auditorium was closed following the 2008 flood on the University of Iowa campus. The UI's largest flood recovery project replaced the original Hancher at a level 7 feet above the 500-year flood level. The replacement building includes a large 1,900-seat, multi-purpose proscenium theater, front of house and back of house support spaces, rehearsal room, and administrative offices. In 2016, construction for on the replacement Hancher Auditorium was completed. Hancher Auditorium is named for the thirteenth president of the University of Iowa, Virgil Hancher.
